VYI offers three distinct leagues based on age group and playing ability.
DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE
The 1st thru 3rd grade leagues are developmental and emphasis is placed on developing fundamental skills. All interested applicants will be placed on a team and are guaranteed equal playing time.
HOUSE LEAGUE
The House League is for 4th grade thru 8th grade and is a competitive league where scores and standings are maintained. The leagues play an end of season tournament with trophies awarded. All interested applicants will be placed on a team and are guaranteed playing time, usually a minimum of one quarter each half.
Our high school leagues are very competitive as a number of varsity level players participate each year. Tryouts for these leagues used to place players on teams are normally held following the selection of high school teams in early to mid-November. All players who properly register and try out, up to the league maximum size of 140 players, are accepted. Anyone who registers and then makes a high school freshman, junior varsity or varsity team will receive a full refund.
COUNTY LEAGUE
The County League is for players in the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grades who wish to prepare to play high school basketball, and is highly competitive. Teams are selected after rigorous tryouts in early October with players not selected asked to play in the House League.
ASSESSMENTS
Each House League from the second (1st grade assigned by neighborhood) through the 8th grades conducts assessments by grade level on a Saturday and Sunday in mid-October following County tryouts. The assessments are to establish a current basketball rating for every House player so that teams may be set up as evenly as possible. See the assessments times in the left column.
Teams in the 9th grade and high school boys league conduct assessments during mid-week in early to mid November to place new players on teams as the core of the team stays together until graduation. The girls high school league conducts assessments during mid-week in early to mid November to place players on teams.
Each County league team conducts tryouts during the first two full week period in early October. Click on "County" in the left column above for a schedule.
