FEE WAIVER REQUIREMENTS

VYI sets its fees based on the needs of the league and the costs associated with running the sports program. VYI Basketball also contributes a portion of its fees, in lieu of fund raising, to the VYI Capital Fund. VYI expects all families who are financially able to pay the fee set by the sport. However, for those families facing financial hardship VYI offers a scholarship/waiver of fees to allow children to play basketball. To qualify for this fee waiver the family must do the following:

STEP 1 - BOTH PARENTS MUST VOLUNTEER

Both parents, if both are legally responsible for the child, must volunteer for one of the positions listed to qualify for a full scholarship. If parents do not volunteer the fee is $35 per parent per child, and that cannot be waived. If one parent is not legally responsible for the child, then that parent should be coded as "Not at Home" on the on-line form and the volunteer requirement applies to only the parent who has full legal responsibility.

VYI suggests parents volunteer for Building Director, which carries a requirement to take a test and to attend one or two practices or games, assuming you are scheduled by your team coach,  to act as a gym monitor. VYI receives a gym fee discount from Fairfax County by performing this function so it is very important that we comply with their rules and regulations

There are study questions on our Basketball WEB page under "BD Info" and the test is listed at the bottom of the page under "Bldg Dir Test". Both spouses must take the test to qualify as a Building Director if both parents volunteered for this position.

Once you take the test it will be emailed automatically to VYI.

STEP 2 - PARENT MUST REGISTER CHILD ON-LINE

Register your child (children) on-line in the appropriate league. If you do not own a computer go to your local public library or to another location where you can use a computer. IN THE EVENT YOU DO NOT REGISTER BEFORE YOU FILE THE WAIVER REQUEST IT WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.

If you register after the stated cutoff date for your appropriate league, a late fee will be charged.

**YOU  MUST PAY WITHIN THREE DAYS OF YOUR ORIGINAL REGISTRATION OR YOUR REGISTRATION WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY CANCELLED FOR NON-PAYMENT AND YOU WILL BE FORCED TO START THE PROCESS AGAIN.

STEP 3 - ONLY AFTER COMPLETING REGISTRATION ON-LINE AND VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS, COMPLETE THE "WAIVER REQUEST" FORM

Only after taking the test and completing registration, without paying, should you complete the Waiver Request form found in the On Line Forms in the left hand menu. Once we receive an electronic copy of the form we will verify that you took the test or otherwise volunteered, and will notify you of your acceptance and will adjust the registration system to adjust your fees for the current season. THERE ARE TWO FEES THAT ARE NOT SUBJECT TO WAIVER; THE NON-VOLUNTEER FEE AND THE LATE FEE, SO IF YOU COMPLETE THIS PROCESS AFTER THE DEADLINE SET YOU MUST PAY A LATE FEE IN ADDITION TO WHATEVER FEE IS ASSIGNED.
